Microsoft announced on Monday that it will directly integrate Google Talk into its Outlook.com webmail service – an unexpected maneuver on all accounts. The announcement came after Microsoft received user feedback specifically requesting the ability to chat with Google Talk contacts. The company utilized Google Talk’s APIs in order to make this feature possible. However, Google Talk conversations done through Outlook.com will have to be text only for now. Larry Page, Google’s CEO speaking today at Google’s 2013 I/O event commented on Microsoft’s integration with Gtalk in which he said it’s not fair that one “company is milking the other”....

Lenovo Group Ltd, the world’s largest maker of personal computers, plans to expand its smartphone business to three west African countries starting with Nigeria and then Ghana and Ivory Coast. This follows the Chinese companies buyout of IBM’s low-end server business for $2.3 billion and Motorola from Search giant Google at just $2.91 billion last month. Now the PC maker is turning to Africa to bootstrap its smartphone business which it hopes will offset dwindling PC sales....

The Microsoft Lumia 435 is a Windows Phone 8.1 low-end smartphone that was released in Febuary this year. The device was launched in Uganda in mid-March this year along with the Lumia 532. MTN Uganda has had several legal encounters with the tax body, Uganda Revenue Authority, (URA) over unpaid taxes. The encounters have gone through a number of rulings with the latest from the Tax Appeals Tribunal, (TAT) asking MTN to pay UGX 24,273,771,472 (twenty-four billion two hundred seventy-three million seven hundred seventy-one thousand four hundred seventy-two) to URA. In a statement , MTN Uganda said that it is a responsible and ethical corporate citizen committed to meeting all its lawful obligations including all taxes that are properly assessed and are due and owing....

MTN Uganda has revamped its voice bundles called MyPakaPaka to give customers more minutes to talk. MTN Uganda’s Chief Marketing Officer Somdev Sen said the revamp is part of the telecom company’s drive to offer affordability to customers while maintaining value. “In these times of economic difficulty, MTN is committed to offering affordable voice solutions that fit the budget of every customer. Tired of manually downloading shows on your Netflix account? Well, Good news! Netflix can now automatically download shows for you on your device based on your viewing history. This is an addition to the Smart Downloads section that allows you to download shows on Netflix for offline viewing. Previously the other available feature ‘Download Next Episode’ provided users with the option to download shows by episode. It can then delete episodes of shows you’ve watched and replace them with those you haven’t seen....

Motorbike hailing is the latest buzz in the Nigeria tech ecosystem. About three years ago, citizens could only hail bikes (commonly called Okada) the conventional way — flagging down riders by the roadside. The problem, however, was that the activities of these conventional bike riders were (still remains) unregulated.
