A few years ago, smartphones were quite expensive for the masses to afford but since the legendary Huawei Ideos with Google there has been a lot of headway in making affordable smartphones. Attempts have been made to make a $50 smartphone by Google under their Android One Project with varying degrees of success. Google isn’t the only one that has made efforts in this direction. In Africa, we’ve seen brands like Tecno, iTel, Nokia, Microsoft, iDroid among others making affordable smartphones....

At the Mobile World Congress, Mozilla announced a deal with Chinese chip designer Spreadtrum Communications to mass produce a $25 smartphone for emerging markets. Over the last three days, children from 10 schools in Kampala were able to create various exciting and innovative robotics projects in the fields of programming, mechanics and electronics. This was part of a 3-day Juniors Robotics camp organized by MTN Uganda in partnership with FundiBots, a Ugandan based organization that focuses on robotics training in schools aiming to change that mind-set. The MTN Foundation has today donated 100 beds to nine health centers under the jurisdiction of the Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA). Android devices could be exposed to a newly discovered vulnerability called the RAMpage. The exploit could theoretically work on any device with LPDDR memory( Low Power Double Data Rate memory), which includes virtually every smartphone released since 2012. How does it work? Dubbed the RAMpage, the attack allows malicious applications to break out of their sandbox and access the entire operating system.
